Just before Art Basel Miami Beach, the design lovers can go to another design event that looks quite promising! The New Wave Art Wknd is a weekend with private collection tours, gallery openings, public art installations, and panel discussions to showcase the contemporary art scene in Florida. The main goal of this exclusive design event is to build an artistic bridge between the beautiful Palm Beach and Miami since they are separated by one hour drive.
This exclusive weekend was created and organized by a group of art lovers that wanted a full artistic experience for a dreamy weekend. In this group, there was the renowned art gallerist Sarah Gavlak, some art collectors like Beth Rudin DeWoody, Jane Holzer, Ann Tenenbaum, and Amy Phelan, and some art curators such as Franklin Sirmans (director of the Pérez Art Museum Miami) and Isolde Brielmaier. They all worked together to organize this intimate event called New Wave Art Wknd.
The New Wave event is supposed to support artists to the next level by engaging with the artists and collectors and giving them a platform to further the discourse. This incredible design weekend. Inspired by the spirit of events like Art Crush, which takes place in the summer in Aspen, Colorado, this exclusive weekend is a great start for the one and only Art Basel Miami Beach. The most exciting points of this exclusive tour, according to the renowned art gallerist, are the opening of The Bunker Artspace: Collection of Beth Rudin DeWoody, Gavlak’s new gallery space, and a site-specific public art project in West Palm Beach curated by Culture Corps’ Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen

“People just do not know how interesting and vibrant the scene is, and New Wave will get the word out. There is a real thriving, intellectual contemporary-art-collector base that is engaged in the greater art world, and the larger conversation about inclusivity—we have a lot more to offer than private clubs and beaches”, explains the art collector, Jane Holzer, to the AD team.
Besides visiting incredible art galleries and unique exhibitions, the weekend’s participants will also have the privilege to have a unique private tour throughout prominent contemporary collectors’ homes, including those of Holzer, the Phelans, and Lisa and Richard Perry.
In the event, the organization team of the New Wave Art Wknd will also announce an Immigrant Artist Residency, a live/work residency program starting in 2019 where an artist can take a moment to live, work and reflect, contributing to a more cultural diversity in Palm Beach.
