After apprenticing separately with several of Florida’s leading design and architectural firms and completing a wide range of projects types including airport concourses, colleges, office buildings, resorts, libraries, and custom homes, William & Phyllis Taylor decided in 1983 to meld their considerable experience and talent into their own partnership: Taylor & Taylor Inc.
Miami Design Agenda wants to show you some of Taylor & Taylor’s best interior design projects:
Located on the shore of one of the many inland lakes of Central Florida near Orlando, this project is one of our most memorable. This represents one of our first successes in defining what classic Florida style means to us. While mature, the home proves that classic design in Florida can be timeless, stylish and fresh. The clients gave us a detailed list of program needed to accommodate their growing family of five, love of dogs and extensive book collection.

This modernist house is tucked away on a very secluded cul-de-sac in the middle of one of the few remaining hardwood hammocks in the southern reaches of Miami. “Hammock House” was both named after and inspired by its unique native tropical setting. Hammock House was designed to sit very lightly on its fragile site. Conceptually, it is a bridge spanning between two flanking pavilions allowing the natural beauty of the site to remain intact.

This house is known as Seraphim Point, and it occupies a very enviable site within the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, the northernmost of the Florida Keys. Its location on a private peninsula allowed us to situate the house with all its major views to the west, over the water, and thus to Florida’s majestic sunsets. The house rests on a base of native keystone. Windows feature traditional Caribbean shutters, the roof is wood shake, and there is elaborate stucco detailing on the walls. This is a two story house with five bedrooms, but it is also oriented toward outdoor living. In the evening the sunset reflects onto the bay and, in turn, its colors infuse the grand spaces within.
