When you think about luxurious fashion brands, it is most likely you will think about Versace. And if you ever go to Bal Harbour, Florida, you will find a recently-opened boutique by this famous brand. The only difference that there will be against all of the others is that this one focuses on sustainability.
Gwenael Nicolas, most known because of his Tokyo-based firm Curiosity, is the architect and designer that oversaw this project and it was important for him to create a dialogue between the viewer and the creations.
The materials in both the structure and its interiors have been chosen by applying a hard selection regarding the sustainability standards so that they could reduce the extraction of raw materials – glass for mosaics, that have an avant-garde pattern handmade by Italian craftsmen, FSC certified wood for the structure, and a brass grid on the ceiling, to create an illusion of lightness through the use of bronze strips that act as a support.
An important and necessary step in the construction of this place was the choice of using dimmable LED lights with central control and also climate control equipment for energy efficiency – with this, the brand has planned a 5-year program to compensate the energy and water use in the store and obtained the LEED Gold that was approved by unanimity worldwide by the US Green Building Council.
“I love this new concept that embraces a sustainable future for the people and for the environment,” Nicolas said. “I believe in constant evolution and I think this project perfectly embraces the heritage of the brand with innovative spatial design for Versace’s vision for the future.” He continued, “Versace is a brand that never ceases to surprise. Its intense curiosity for the new keeps the collections contemporary and innovative. The new store concept follows that path.”
In addition of the opening of this brand-new store, the brand has decided to launch a special t-shirt line that also had in mind the theme of sustainability, in which all of the t-shirts are made of 100% organic cotton.
“There is nothing more precious than our future: the new concept of the Versace stores is a further step towards sustainability”, commented Donatella Versace, creative director of the fashion house.
