Jake Phipps is a London based designer. Phipps studied furniture design in Pamham College and a few years later, after making “one-off” pieces for commission, he decided to open his own design studio in London.
His reputation started growing and growing and now he has an envious client portfolio with endless world-known names like Philippe Stark, Google, Tommy Hilfiger, Harvey Nichols, Victoria’s Secret and others.
Two of his most famous creations are his hat lamps! Inspired by British cultural icons, the lamps have the shape of a Top Hat (The Wooster lamp) and a Bowler Hat (The Jeeves lamp).
These hats were often associated to a certain class of society and some eccentricity. The Bowler hat is also often associated with Renne Magritte’s painting “The Son of Man”. The lamps are made from authentic hats and the interiors come in aluminum which helps reflect the light.
One of his latest creations (and my personal favorite) – The Shell Stools! We’ve been seeing a lot of designers creating furniture inspired in weapons and ammunition.
In my personal opinion I think Jake Phipps really did an achievement. The only other person I’ve seen achieve such “bang” was Philippe Stark with his Gun Lamp collection. These marvelous Shell Stools can work in many different ways, you can have just one stool and definitely make a statement or have more and create your own arrangement.
