ESPASSO has won the best curio booth at Design Miami 2019, with a limited-edition lamp collection, Fine Tuning, by Claudia Moreira Salles. This incredible lamp collection definitely stood out from every exhibitor, making a very good first statement for the first day! Miami Design Agenda is about to let you in on every important detail of this booth.
Congrats are in order for ESPASSO for winning the “Best Curio” booth at Design Miami 2019! ESPASSO presented a limited-edition lamp collection, Fine Tuning by Claudia Moreira Salles. It mixes exotic reclaimed woods abundant in rich grains and colors – such as rosewood and pine – with niobium, a rare metal that transforms chromatically without any added pigments. Niobium is commonly used in the tech industry, but Salles turns the material into art rather than scientific matter.
Fine Tuning reveals recurring motifs in Moreira Salles’s work, addressing principles of contrast and harmony. A distinction in lightness and weight is found by contrasting the density of the lamp bases with light and airy shades and the opaque tonality of the wood with the iridescence of Niobium. Additionally, each piece is a unique combination of reclaimed and rare materials.
She’s recognized among Brazil’s top contemporary designers, so Moreira Salles creates pieces with clean geometry, harmoniously pairing Brazilian hardwoods with contrasting materials such as concrete, stone, and metal. Fine Tuning was originally launched at ESPASSO in New York in 2016, featuring a new piece added to the collection exclusively for Design Miami.
ESPASSO New York celebrated Claudia Moreira Salles’s new exhibit “Fine Tuning”, with a new line of limited-edition lamps and never-before-seen furniture designed by Claudia. The event also showcased a new book featuring the “Fine Tuning” lamp series. The LP Table lamps demonstrate a balance of complexity and simplicity in the lightness of their structure against their own bold shadows.
