Design Miami/Basel 2013

Design Miami/Basel is back! As I posted before we have both Design Miami and Art Basel in Miami during the month of December every year. However, this show also takes place during June in Switzerland. The very first Design Miami/ Basel, was in 2006 when they chose to exhibit in the gothic Elisabethen church and the Basel theatre. After that, they moved to Markthalle for 2007 and 2008. For the next five years the fair took place in the industrial Hall 5 2009-2012. This year they decided to move the show to Hall 1 Süd, Messe Basel. Although they feel like the former hall offered them a “striking exhibition space with strong character” truth is the space was very limited.

The show will run from June 11 to 16. The General show hours are from 11am to 7pm. There was a preview day on the 10th (by invitation only) and also the Design Miami/Basel Welcome Cocktail to celebrate the opening of the fair. The Cocktail took place at Volkshaus and gathered designers, artists, collectors among others that belong to the very specific elite crowd of the show.

Today, we have all eyes on what is for me probably one of the most important “Design Talks” that this show has ever had the pleasure to present us with. Today, we will have the W Hotels Designers of the Future Award Winners (Jon Stam, Bethan Laura Wood, Seung-Yong Song) discuss their trips and their work inspirations all moderated by Felix Burrichter, Editor-in-Chief for PIN-UP Magazine!!
