The work of Touzet Studio can be described as richly detailed, sensual modern architecture. The studio strives to create mindful and very specific design solutions inspired by nature, culture and technology. The work is meticulously crafted, sculptural architecture that celebrates texture and color, light and shadow and Miami Design Agenda is a big fan of Touzet Studio projects.
One of Touzet Studio projects is a residence in Coral Gables. The residence faces to the east with great views across Biscayne Bay to Downtown Miami and the barrier islands of Key Biscayne. The architects of Touzet Studio had to deal with a difficult task. Their client asked for a modern home, which is in contrast to the City of Coral Gables’ mainly historical style. That’s why the city-side of the house was designed as two restrained stone-clad volumes. The chosen material for the residence is often used in the architecture of Coral Gables’ buildings.
The entire facade was kept as simple as possible. Only two openings on the western facade and some windows above open the facade. The water side of the house is very open with large windows and glass walls. A sculptural roof provides shade to the terraces.
