The Design Studios of Allen Saunders, Inc. provided the Architectural Interior Design services for this Continuum ocean front condominium located at the tip of South Beach in Miami Beach Florida. The project scope included a full interior gut and completely new interior build-out, furnishings, artwork and accessories. We managed to find a special interview and description made by Saunders in one of the most iconic magazines : Florida Design. He talk about the project itself, the challenges and the clients.

What about the apartment itself? The dropped ceiling soffit that center the kitchen area provides an architectural element, while custom pendants of polished nickel and clear mica descend over the counter in perfect complement to the Thermador stainless steel hood from Ferguson. Fixed glass panels flank the entryway to the open great room. A dramatic Capiz shell chandelier descends from a drop-down architectural ceiling soffit to create an intimate conversation zone.

“The chandelier is the “fireplace” for this room, it’s the “fire and light” that draws guests to the space” – Saunders says. And the open living area incorporates an impromptu dining area : the ebonized sofa, table can be moved back just enough to accommodate four dining chairs and the bench in the living area to provide comfortable seating for six. The focal point of the foyer, a fascinating conversation-piece artwork from the owners’ private collection, features a video installation wherein the artist himself picks up and moves a wooden slat bench. The owners were so intrigued with the artwork that Saunders tracked down the actual bench depicted in the video and placed it directly below the work as part of the installation.

Originally an enclosed space, the kitchen now stands totally exposed. “Our objective was to create the look of one seamless piece of furniture instead of appliances, since the space is so visible from the living area.” Saunders says referencing the pass-through, where an architectural column wrapped in porcelain tile provides a foil for the minimalized kitchen island plumbing that is concealed within. Along the far wall, custom architectural cabinetry clad in a sand-toned Tabu veneer finish houses a pantry and a pair of fully integrated, Thermador refrigeration/freezer columns. ”

“When you look outside all you see is an endless stretch of sea and sky.” Says Saunders of his design theme for the master bedroom. “The reality is that this was an incredible collaboration with amazing clients who were supportive and great to work with throughout a year-and-a-half project that transformed an impressive space to realize its full potential” – He ended.

The Design Studios of Allen Saunders, Inc. developed the interior design for this lakeside golfcourse view residence located in the prestigious Addison Reserve community located in Delray Beach Florida. The 4900 square foot residence interior was re-imagined by the design firm that included interior renovation, furnishings, artwork and accessories. This project design was awarded two ASID Excellence in Design Awards, the first for the residential design under 5000 sq. ft category and a second in the master bathroom category.
